The Knowledgebase for Plant Biodesign (KBP) is a knowledge graph of DNA parts, gene constructs and plant traits. It serves as a public platform for curating experimentally validated DNA parts (e.g., protein-coding genes, non-coding RNAs, promoters, terminators, insulators), along with gene constructs linked to various traits relevant to bioeconomy (e.g., bioenergy, biomaterials, crop yield, food quality, pharmaceutics, phytomining) and environmental security (e.g., biosensor, climate change mitigation, phytoremediation).
The mission of KBP is to facilitate the genetic/epigenetic improvement of existing plants and enable the creation of novel plant traits or organisms to address global challenges in the security of food, health, energy, and environment as well as accelerate the development of bioeconomy.
The researchers from any part of the world are encouraged to submit DNA parts and construct designs which have been engineered in plants, resulting in significant improvement of plant traits. A panel of experts will review and approve the submissions. To increase the understanding and utilization of KBP, researchers are encouraged to write review articles, providing frameworks for designing specific traits, along with the description of representative DNA parts and constructs.
As the first module of Plant BioDesign Hub, KBP will be integrated with the Circuit-building for Plant Biodesign (CPB) module and the Learning for Plant Biodesign (LPB) module, which will be created in the future.
